To close each month, we will take a tiny break from the funnies to post a serious piece.
Today we deal with a volunteer program that might help add value to the resume of a budding reporter looking to break into journalism.
Spare time spent on a hobby editing at the Open Directory Project can help bolster a reporter's CV. Imagine telling a prospective employer that you:
- * publish concise and informative summaries. (The art of writing informative item in less than 35 words is highly-valued in reporting circles);
- * have a body of work viewed by millions;
- * can review items in a unbiased and clear writing sytle; and
- * work collaboratively with the team at the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web.
Make sure that on your editor application you include the three suggested urls and that you describe all three sites correctly (according to the guidelines link provided in an earlier reply).

(PS: Let me know if you are accepted. I'd be happy to help show any new editors the ropes.)
